A second-hand Neo Geo X Gold Limited Edition was in the mail this weekend. The best thing about it (besides it being cheap) is there are no signs of use, just some minor damage on the packing materials and some fingerprints on the glossy screen.
The handheld device is very well crafted and has a great picture quality. As soon as you connect it to a TV, you’ll understand why many people don’t like this console: the picture looks bad, really bad – tried it via HDMI on a LCD and via composite video on a CRT TV. Let’s hope that Tommo/SNK will fix the video output in the firmware update that is rumoured to be included in the upcoming game packs.
Unfortunately, my Neo Geo X has firmware 370, meaning there is no safe way to hack the firmware/software without possibly bricking it – yet. But there is a way for adding more games to it by modding a micro-SD to SD adapter. More information about that can be found here and here. As soon as the adapters I ordered arrive, I’ll post more details.
